1.8 Upgrade

Hi all,

I will be starting prep work for the 1.8 worlds this afternoon. I will start by renaming our current world from the default 'world' to 'Rapture'. This is likely to cause major problems for plugins and permissions so expect some problems and downtime!! That reminds me, we need to think of a name for the new 1.8 world .

Once that is done and working properly, I will install multiverse and set up 'Rapture' ready to become one of multiple worlds. I will probably do this part later in the week.

Once I'm happy that everything is performing as it should, we'll be ready to use multiverse to create our new 1.8 world once the update is released. (I will probably have to update bukkit and plugins before doing this).

I'll do as much as I can now to see that we get our new world with as little disruption as possible.

As I said in the thread, snow biomes will apparently not be present in a 1.8 generated world, according to either Notch or Jeb's twitter. They did say they would be returning in 1.9 I believe, though I have a hunch that they took them out so they could do seasons later. Anyway, just pointing it out.

I think for 1.8 I'm going to generate a world for us to explore and enjoy the features of 1.8 but not build (unless you really want to). Then I'll wipe it and make a new one for 1.9,

Sounds good as long as everyone knows it's going to be wiped. We don't want to have to import a bunch more buildings between worlds.

Just please keep the latest version of the 1.7.3 server in the backup please!

1.8 World is up and running!

Can we not have a giant imported spawn tower on the 1.9 world please? And can we have the spawn in an NPC village. Of course, we will kill the NPCs, and loot their houses...
